Parameter
Landing gear electric motors could enable decarbonised ground movement by allowing aircraft to taxi without the use of main engines. Beyond fuel, these motors could reduce engine wear, eliminate foreign object damage (from ground equipment) risks, and decrease airport noise pollution. Such motors could come with a mass penalty. This could potentially be offset by the reduced fuel load required for the mission. Further studies are needed to explore the trade-offs.
