What’s next... Flying Vision Accelerator outlook

Conception of FVA
Flying Vision originated as an idea for a broad coalition collaborating towards more decarbonisation in aviation. The strength of the coalition is the connection between the minds and experience of experts in relevant fields with the practical input of researchers and technology experts. This concept led to the NGF proposal for Luchtvaart in Transitie.

Flying Vision Accelerator is, as a precursor for a future Flying Vision, an integral part of Luchtvaart in Transitie, bridging stakeholders and connecting technology development projects to the knowledge base of the aviation ecosystem.

How FVA works: now and in the future
As a project of LiT, Flying Vision Accelerator is delivering a broadly supported roadmap, which demonstrates the transition process of the entire ecosystem. This roadmap will serve the aviation ecosystem. By connecting experts through open workshops and through the dissemination of the roadmap, FVA will expand connections, forge new partnerships, and create a movement.

An annual cycle to deliver the roadmaps has started in 2025 and will be repeated in 2026, 2027, and 2028. The process to come to the consolidated roadmap to be disseminated follows recurring processes.

Topic leaders assemble a team to map research questions, identify relevant experts and organisations in order to shape the FVA expert sessions, which are called think tanks. We are currently working on three main thematic pathways:

• Reducing energy consumption for air travel
• Integration of novel energy carriers
• The passenger in 2050

The Think Tank sessions are open sessions by design, meaning that the sessions are announced to attract participants and inputs for the session. The Think Tank sessions follow each other in deepening the shared knowledge by exploring new research questions. This means that a yearly cycle of Think Tank sessions leads to new insights, which is visualised in the updated roadmap.

The future of FVA
Beyond delivering the roadmap, FVA actively builds a network of experts that want to work towards more decarbonisation in aviation by joining sessions and events. From October 2025 onwards, a dedicated workstream “Network Expansion” is active towards this objective. This workstream will work on:

• Formalising a partnership format to allow the network to grow.
• Adding new partners to the Flying Vision Accelerator network.
• Formulating the steps to transform Flying Vision Accelerator towards Flying Vision

This final step closes the circle envisaged by the aforementioned initiators of Flying Vision. By providing this springboard for future collaboration, the FVA project within Luchtvaart in Transitie is preparing itself for long-term impact.
